Meg, if you are going to do it in a day, have a support vehicle or a good plan to get out if it all goes wrong. That said, we never saw our support all day long. We rode pretty fast. So, you will need about one and one-half gallons of water, five power bars, eight gels, extra food, a jacket, tools, two tubes, and a clear mind. Oh yeah, don't do it on a cross bike. My hands still hurt.
